Presidents in the Comics

There has been a lot of buzz recently over the appearance of Barack Obama in Amazing Spiderman. Some news reports have stated this is the first time a President has appeared in comics clearly identified as a sitting President. Now, you and I both know this is not accurate. Off the top of my head I remember:

--Bill Clinton appearing in The Reign of the Supermen with the Cyborg Superman working under his orders.

--Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew appearing in an old issue of The Incredible Hulk.

--Richard Nixon being featured in Watchmen

--Ronald Reagan appearing in The Dark Knight Returns

--I am pretty sure Jimmy Carter made an appearance in a comic title that I simply cannot remember.

More often than not, comic books do not like to feature presidents. There are a few reasons for this. One of the main reasons in the past was the problems with continuity. That is, the couldn't explain why Peter Parker never managed to graduate college or age despite have been perpetually taking classed from the Johnson Administration to the Bush 41 administration. Then again, ducking out of class to stop the Rhino will lead to a number of "Incompletes" on a transcript.
