Rhino on a Rampage!

There are cool covers and then there are COOL covers. Without a doubt, this is one of my all time favorite comic cook covers. Maybe I am biased since I have fond memories of this cover from my youth. And, yes, I think the Rhino is a super cool (albeit hokey) villain. I first discovered The Rhino in the late 1970's on Philadelphia TV reruns (Channel 17 - The Great Entertainer) when it used to run reruns of the late 1960's Spiderman series. The Rhino popped up twice on the series and my fav centered on his stealing gold to make a golden Rhino statue in his warehouse hideaway. (Hey, why not) When I was about 9, I wandered into a comic book shop and stared face to face with this classic cover. It was kept in a plastic bag and hanging on the wall. In today's day and age of Ebay, old comic back issues are not so rare. In my youth, they were very tought to find and ran upwards of $10. (Yeah, seems low....but comics were fifty cents. Oh, and you could get a mint condition issue of Spiderman #1 for $200) The over the top cover harkened to wild, unimagined adventure. That is somewhat of a lost art these days although I still do see some inspiring and cool covers now and then. As for this issue, eventually I did save enough money to buy the issue. It was worth every penny.

Here is that classic cover...immortalized....
