Octoner Sales Figures

I was skimming through the sales figures of October 2008 and it is good to see that DC’s fortunes have picked up. No, they are not a threat to Marvel since Marvel does better overall. Nor am I trying to infer Marvel “unjustly” sells more copies with inferior products. (A common refrain from DC fans in the 1980’s) I am just happy to see DC getting back to its roots: telling good stories. FINAL CRISIS has been a solid series and the huge sales figures it is racking up are well deserved. Of course, Marvel does deserve some credit due to its success with SECRET INVASION. The Skrulls have been around the Marvel Universe since forever and their potential was never really explored. With this new storyarc, we get to see the Skrulls front and center in a cool storyline.

Also, it is good to see some of the other publishers moving books as well. The sales for Dark Horse’s Conan series are solid. Spawn is selling 30,000+ issues a month which is interesting in and off itself. It sold INSANE volumes of issues when it debuted. It also wa not a great book and people like myself stop purchasing and moved on.

The traditional heroes such as Batman, Spiderman, and The Hulk are doing well and that is always a good sign. It is never a good sign when a classic hero’s sale drops and while classic heroes have struggled at different points in history.

Anyway, the sales figures show an overall strong industry and, hopefully, this will remain the case for many more years to come.
